 \;The University of Colorado American Indian Law Clinic students will be participating in a mock jury trial as attorneys. \; The case being tried is the fictional case\, Rita Nightwind Francis\, et al. v. Northern Moccasin Tribal Nation\, et al. \; It is based on the famous U.S. Supreme Court case\, Santa Clara Pueblo v. Martinez. \; The case involves a challenge to the tribe&rsquo\;s law that allows the children of Northern Moccasin men and non-Northern Moccasin to be enrolled as tribal members\, but denies membership to the children born to Northern Moccasin women and non-Northern Moccasin men. The plaintiffs will argue that the law is not based on tribal tradition and violates their right to equal protection of the law. The Tribal Council&rsquo\;s defense will be that they are allowed to enact a seemingly discriminatory law because it is based on tribal tradition and is a matter of tribal self-government. \;

We are in need of persons to participate as witnesses in these parts\: the plaintiff tribal members\, the tribal council members\, the tribal governor\, a BIA director\, an anthropologist and a traditional tribal elder. We also need six people to serve as jurors and decide the case. \;
