Please encourage your players to apply!   A huge part of the All West's focus is to get Native American students to extend their educational horizons and opportunities.

We have received NO applications for the Mark Ulmer Memorial Native American Scholarships which are given out at the All-West Basketball Classic in Denver.

The deadline has been extended to FEBRUARY 22, 2010 (postmark date). PLEASE encourage your seniors who play in this tournament to file their applications as soon as posssible. Applications are available on our website:

The Scholarships....
SELECTION CRITERIA
  1. Candidates must be American Indian. Applicant must provide proof of American Indian ethnic background as defined below:
An individual who maintains cultural identification as an American Indian through membership in an Indian tribe recognized by the federal government or through other tribal affiliation or community recognition.
  1. Must be a high potential high school senior or incoming college freshman with at least 2.0 grade point average and enrolled as a full time student for the next semester/quarter in an accredited college or university.
  2. The student must maintain full time college student status and at least a 2.0 grade point average to be eligible for a scholarship award in following years.
  3. To receive continued funding of a scholarship after the first year, a recipient must submit a transcript for the previous year with qualifying grades.
  4. Provide proof of financial need, on first year application only.
  5. Provide evidence of leadership and community involvement, on first year application only.
  6. Must be a student athlete participating in, or who has participated in, the All-West Native American Basketball Tournament when first selected.
APPLICATION PROCESS AND DEADLINE
  1. Applicant submits Application completed in ALL respects, as above, along with references and transcripts, to:

TO BE POSTMARKED ON OR BEFORE FEBURARY 1, NO APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED UNLESS IT IS COMPLETE AND ACCOMPANIED BY OFFICIAL HIGH SCHOOL AND/OR OTHER TRANSCRIPTS, AND ALL OTHER REQUESTED FORMS/INFORMATION.
IF POSTMARKED LATER THAN FEBURARY 1, THE APPLICATION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR A SCHOLARSHIP.
Included with the Application should be two references from the
following persons: ONE from an instructor at the school which the student attended and ONE from an individual who is not an instructor, and who knows the student well (but who is not a member of the student's family).
  1. Applicants must submit a photocopy of Certificate of Enrollment as a member of a federally recognized tribe.
  2. The checklist for Scholarship Application must be used to verify that all necessary information has been provided and is included. The applicant is to sign the form and have it reviewed by his/her High School Counselor or Advisor. Having the assistance of someone familiar with the process of completing applications such as this is for the benefit of the applicant.
  3. CHECKLIST MUST BE RETURNED WITH THE APPLICATION
  4. Applications are to be forwarded to the Selection Committee. This group will review the applications and recommend scholarship awards based on their assessment of each candidate. Final awards will be made at the annual tournament, or no later than June 30, of the same year.
