A few words from our Executive Director, Rick Waters

August 28, 1963…

On this day, 57 years ago Martin Luther King Jr. gave one of the most famous speeches in history that included the phrase, “I have a Dream”. With a world turned upside down with everything that is happening around social injustice and racism, this is another reminder of how far we have not gone to get to the mountaintop or the dream of everyone being treated equal. His speech was a straightforward message to America of how the nation has persistently failed to live up to its promises and is as applicable today as it was 57 years ago. As Indian people, we know firsthand how this has played out throughout our history with the lengthy list of broken treaties. Until there is equity in everyone’s voice being heard regardless of race, gender or religion, our grandkids and their kids fifty years from now may still be protesting for social justice. The first step in this process of having your voice heard is at the ballot box. Even the mightiest river begins with one drop of water and your one vote is important. November 3 will be here before we know it and if you’re not registered to vote, please do so. https://vote.gov/register/co

Learn about the candidates and issues that will be on the ballots and have your voice heard through your vote. Continue to check the Denver Indian Center, Inc. facebook site in coming days for more information and answers to your questions on the Colorado voting process…

Aho,

Rick Waters
